About Aadhaar News
What this site was, what it is now, and the rules every page follows.
What this site was
Aadhaar News started in 2015 as a WordPress news site about Aadhaar, digital payments and identity verification in India. Between 2015 and 2018 it carried more than 1,500 posts, most of them republished reports from Indian newspapers, filed under categories such as UIDAI, benefit and subsidy transfer, e-KYC, micro-ATM payments, mobile payments and NPCI. The Internet Archive holds copies.
A few of its pages were cited in research and policy work: an Australian industry submission to the Treasury's Review into Open Banking, a master's thesis at Tallinn University of Technology, a national conference at YMCA University of Science and Technology in Faridabad, and a law blog at NILS India. Those pages have been rewritten here at their original addresses.
What it is now
Original explainers, written from primary records: Acts of Parliament, Supreme Court judgments, Comptroller and Auditor General audits, and figures published by UIDAI, NPCI and the Reserve Bank of India. Where a page revisits an old post, it says what the post reported, separates the government's claims from audited findings, and adds what happened since.
Old addresses from the earlier site lead to the closest page here.
Our rules
- Every figure has a source, listed at the foot of the page.
- Estimates are called estimates. A ministry's claim and an auditor's finding are not the same evidence.
- Nothing is copied. Quotes are short, marked, and attributed.
- No fake documents. Our illustrations never show a real-looking Aadhaar card, number or face.
- Corrections are made on the page, with the date changed.
What we are not
Aadhaar News is independent. It is not UIDAI, it is not affiliated with the Government of India, and it cannot enrol, update or download an Aadhaar for anyone. For that, use uidai.gov.in or call 1947.
