Linking mobile number to Aadhaar is necessary to avail various government services online
New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has asked Aadhaar-holders to register their mobile number if not already registered, or update their number with Aadhaar if they have changed it.
Linking mobile number to Aadhaar is necessary to avail of various government services online.
Several government services such as Digi-locker, eSign, eNPS, e-Hospital and e-verification of Income Tax Return (ITR) use Aadhaar as identifier. For instance, Digi-locker allows a resident to open a digital locker using Aadhaar and store all valuable documents. Aadhaar eSign facility allows residents to use digital signature to avail of a number of online services.
“To avail of any of such online services where Aadhaar-based OTP (one-time password) authentication is being used, the resident must have registered his/her mobile number in Aadhaar”, said Ajay Bhushan Pandey, chief executive officer, UIDAI.
The announcement targeted those who had not registered their mobile numbers during Aadhaar enrolments as well as those who changed their mobile numbers, to have better and hassle-free communication and access to government services.
In order to ensure easy enrolment and updation, UIDAI has opened over 23000 permanent enrolment centres (PECs) across the country.
