PUNE: The district administration has set a deadline of November 15 for ration card holders in the city to submit their Aadhaar card numbers to continue to avail benefits under the public distribution system (PDS) or the national food security ordinance.
“The deadline has been set by the state government. Every ration card holder will have to submit details to their nearby fair price ration shop,” an official from the food distribution office said, adding that the office has decided to monitor daily progress of seeding to ensure that target is met before deadline.
The seeding of Aadhaar number to ration card has been planned to restrict black-marketing and illegal supply of food grains. The process has been underway for the last one year. However, many ration card holders availing benefits of various government schemes, including PDS, are yet to submit their Aadhaar details. There are over 50,000 ration card holders in the city availing PDS.
