Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched digital payment app BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) with an aim to promoting a cashless economy in India. BHIM has made sending, requesting and receiving money directly to and from bank accounts fast and easy.Users can also check their balance anytime and switch between accounts in case they have multiple bank accounts.
Today, In press Release released by National Payments Corporation of India(NCPI) revealed that “Within 10 days of its launch by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, BHIM (Bharat Interface forMoney) has clocked 10 million installs and over 2 million transactions across the UPI (Unified PaymentInterface) and USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) platforms.”
Narendra Modi tweeted, “Delighted to know that in a span of 10 days there have been over 10 million downloads of the BHIM App.” Modi also said, “BHIM App has made transactions faster & easier, thus making it popular among the youth. The App is also beneficial for traders.”
“The BHIM App is a fine example of Make in India & how technology is being effectively used to end the menace of corruption & black money”. He added.
BHIM an Aadhaar-based mobile payment application based on Unified Payment Interface (UPI), was launched as part of the 2016 Indian banknote demonetisation, at a Digi Dhan programme at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on December 30, 2016. It can be used on all mobile devices, be it a smartphone or a feature phone with internet connection.
According to NCPI, Currently, BHIM is available in 2 languages (Hindi and English) on the Android platform but will soon be made available in 10 additional Indian languages and on other mobile platforms. In few weeks, iOS version BHIM app will be also released.
