GUWAHATI: Police today nabbed five persons involved in making fake Aadhaar cards during a raid at Ulubari area of the city. Sleuths believe this may be part of a bigger racket in fabricating fake Aadhaar cards.
Police sources said the arrested persons were working on behalf of a Hyderabad-based farm ‘Avvas Infoteh Pvt Ltd’. “We have found that these five men were working under the Hyderabad based farm. When we raided the place, we found printers and laptops used in making the cards, besidesfake documents,” said an official of Paltan Bazar police station.
The five nabbed accused have been identified as Amar Singh Patel, Dileep Kr Kushwaha, Brijesh Kumar, Sisir Patel and Neeraj Singh. All of them hail from Uttar Pradesh.
The police have seized a sizeable number of Aadhar enrolment forms, authorization letters with fake signature of Kamrup (M) DC, besides three laptops, camera, photographs of various people and fingerprint scanners used for registration, during the raid in two houses at Hafij Nagar and Suhagpur in Ulubari area of the city.
Apart from recovering several forged documents, police have also found PAN cards, voter ID cards and birth certificates.
Police further said that taking advantage of people’s ignorance, the racketeers even collected bank account details, PAN card numbers etc. They also collected cash from Rs 30 to Rs 100 from each person, promising the Aadhar card.
Meanwhile, Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu today said that Aadhar card in Assam will be implemented after the NRC update process is completed.
He further said that the responsibility of issuing Aadhar card is vested solely upon the DC’s office. “Any fraudulent act of making Aadhar cards will be strictly dealt with,” he warned.
