VISAKHAPATNAM: Collector N Yuvaraj has said that the names of those who have not seeded their Aadhaar cards with voter ID cards would be deleted from the electoral rolls by August 15. In fact, the government has given time till August 10. However, on a special appeal, the chief electoral officer has extended the time by five more days, the collector added.
The collector convened an all-party meeting Tuesday to explain the importance of Aadhaar card seeding with voter ID cards. The Aadhaar seeding with the Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) in the district was not encouraging. Out of a total of 34.30 lakh voters in the district, only 22.35 lakh voters seeded their Aadhaar card with EPIC, the collector lamented. Assembly constituency-wise in the city, only 44 per cent of voters linked Aadhaar cards with EPIC and nine lakh voters still have to register their Aadhaar cards in the GVMC limits, the collector said.
Already notices had been issued to all the nine lakh voters, if there was no response before August 15, their names would be deleted from the electoral lists, he added.
Joint collector J Nivas gave details of the assembly constituency-wise percentage of Aadhaar seeding with the EPIC: Visakhapatnam East 52, West 44, North 46, South 44 and Gajuwaka 45.
