Those who have not linked their Aadhaar with the required accounts and documents now have some more time to do so. The deadlines to link Aadhaar with PAN, bank accounts, mobile phone numbers, and other services have now been extended till March 31, 2018.
So, if you haven’t linked your Aadhaar to these documents yet read on to find out how you can go about the linking process.
If you do not link your Aadhaar with PAN, your tax returns won’t be processed. To link these two documents, you need to visit the Income Tax website, enter your PAN and Aadhaar details, and complete the authentication process.
2. Bank account
As per the finance ministry notification, bank accounts not linked to Aadhaar by March 31 will cease to become operational. You can link your bank account with your Aadhaar at a bank branch, or by using Internet or mobile banking facilities. To do it through Internet banking, log in to your online banking account and click on the ‘Update Aadhaar’ link. Enter your Aadhaar details and submit it. Use the OTP sent to your registered number to complete the process.
3. Mutual fund folio
CAMS and Karvy Computershare offer online facilities for linking your Aadhaar to your mutual fund account. Go to the CAMS or Karvy website and click on the ‘Link Your Aadhaar’ tab. Follow the steps to fill in the form and submit it, then enter the OTP generated and sent to your registered mobile number to complete the linking process.
You can link Aadhaar to your insurance policies by logging on to the website or visiting the customer service department of your insurance provider. In most cases, you are only required to provide your policy number and date of birth for verification. Once verified, you will be asked to update your Aadhaar number. At present, only LIC, SBI Life Insurance, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, and Max Life Insurance offer online Aadhaar linking services.
Aadhaar linking is mandatory for opening or holding a Post Office account or investing in small savings schemes like NSC and PPF. To do this, log on to the India Post website, download the Aadhaar linkage form, fill it up and submit it to the post office where you hold an account.
At present, to undergo the re-verification process you need to visit your telecom service provider’s store with your Aadhaar card. You’ll be required to verify your biometrics (by allowing the store to match your fingerprints or iris scan with the UIDAI database via the Internet), and to complete the process an OTP will be sent to your mobile number. There’s no fee for the verification. However, going by DoT’s latest directive, from January 1, 2018 you will have two more options which will allow you to re-verify your Aadhaar details with the TSP without visiting the store, i.e., via IVR and online.
